Mitochondrial
What is SS-31?
SS-31 (Elamipretide)
Mechanism of Action
SS-31 is a mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide that selectively concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane due to its aromatic-cationic structure. It binds to cardiolipin, a lipid found exclusively in mitochondrial membranes. Research suggests it may protect mitochondrial structure, reduce oxidative stress, and support ATP production.
Peptide Structure
Aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide (4 amino acids)
Research Applications
Mitochondrial protection
Cardiolipin research
Oxidative stress
Heart failure studies
Aging research
